Real Zaragoza coach Paco Herrera has revealed the second division Spanish club are interested in signing Manchester United striker Angelo Henriquez.

The 19-year was unable to crack the first team at Old Trafford under now retired manager Sir Alex Ferguson after joining United last September.

He played eight games for Wigan on loan last season and his future under new boss David Moyes is unclear.

"We are very interested in Angelo Henriquez," Herrera told El Mercurio.

"We have been following him and we hope to get a response from their club soon.

"He is a striker full of technical qualities, could be a good signing."

It is understood Henriquez is open to a further loan move this season on the proviso he is guaranteed first-team football.

The teenager scored 15 times in 28 appearances for his first professional club Universidad de Chile before being snapped up by United.

Rimando savoring U.S. Gold Cup run

CHICAGO -- On a national team that boasts quality goalkeepers such as Tim Howard and Brad Guzan, finding playing time is no easy task.

That is why getting an extended run at the CONCACAF Gold Cup has been so enjoyable for Nick Rimando.

The Real Salt Lake star has often found himself behind both of the English Premier League standouts on U.S. rosters. During the Americans´ run to the final against Panama at Soldier Field on Sunday, however, Rimando has played in four games, allowing three goals and recording one shutout.

"It´s great to get on the field, finally," Rimando said prior to U.S. practice at the University of Illinois-Chicago on Friday afternoon. "There are some great goalkeepers ahead of me right now. I´m playing well with my club team and my club team is the reason why I´m here. I don´t get to showcase all time for Jurgen [Klinsmann, the coach] because of the goalkeepers in front of me.

"When the time comes you´ve got to be able to turn it on, take your opportunity and really go with it. So, playing consistency and playing with this team is a chance to really show Jurgen what I can do on the field."

The 34-year-old has been enjoying one of his best club seasons, leading Major League Soccer with a 0.82 goals-against average and six shutouts. Entering this weekend´s action at the New York Red Bulls, RSL has accrued the most points in the league (37).

After earning his first cap in 2002 against El Salvador, Rimando waited seven years before wearing the red, white and blue again. Until this Gold Cup, he was used sparingly, but now has made 11 appearances.

Not surprisingly, Rimando is treasuring the experience of participating in CONCACAF’s premier event.

"It´s great because you always try to judge yourself a bit on how you perform with the national team," he noted. "It´s different playing with your club team than the national team. This tournament has given me the confidence that I can play with this group of guys. We could get results and possibly win a tournament. That´s great for the confidence, but it’s also great for the players on this team trying to make that World Cup roster.”

Panama enters the game undefeated at 4-1-0, allowing a tournament-low three goals. Additionally, it is the only team to beat both the U.S. and Mexico in Gold Cup history. The Canaleros handed the U.S. its only first-round Gold Cup loss in the 2011, winning, 2-1. The U.S., though, has eliminated Panama in each of the competition’s last four editions.

The 5-9, 184-lb. Rimando said Panama is a "Tough team. Organized. Big. Strong. A team that´s probably for this tournament as much as we are. In the back of their minds, it might be the Seattle qualifier that we won. I think they´re a group that´s similar to the one that´s in Seattle and looking to take that cup away from us."

Winning the Gold Cup will have further rewards for the victor, which will clinch a playoff berth for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup against the 2015 Gold Cup champion.

Rimando isn´t thinking that far in advance. He’s focused on only one thing on Sunday.

"I think it´s in the back of the minds, but it´s not something that we´re really thinking about yet," he said. "We´ve got to win the game on Sunday first and then that comes into play.

Penedo produces for Panama

CHICAGO -- Some goalkeepers will let the pressure get to them when a match is ultimately decided on penalty kicks.

Then there is Panama’s Jaime Penedo, who welcomes the challenge.

The 31-year-old thrives on stopping penalty kicks in tie-breaking circumstances, especially in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he has faced the scenario three times in the previous four editions of the competition.

He hasn´t been called upon to pull off any late-match heroics in this tournament, but there is one more game remaining -- the final at Soldier Field on Sunday against the United States.

"I feel less tense when facing a long shootout when it comes to that part of extratime," Penedo said after Panama’s practice at the University of Illinois-Chicago on Friday. "You have to be disciplined and you have to know to manage situations. It´s easier for me to handle -- long shootouts than it would just to be PKs."

Penedo´s most memorable Gold Cup shootout moments came in the 2005 tournament, when he faced them twice -- against South Africa in the quarterfinals (Panama advanced 5-3 pens) and in the final against the United States, which triumphed 3-1 on penalties after a scoreless draw for its third title.

"I have that game in my memory as it was yesterday," Penedo recalled. "Of course, it´s a possibility of the game ending in a shootout because of how tough the conditions will be inside. So, we´ll be prepared to handle the situation."

In the 2011 Gold Cup quarterfinals, Penedo was at it again, making a key save in the shootout to help Panama advance 5-3 on after playing El Salvador to a 1-1 draw.

Participating in his fifth consecutive Gold Cup, the former Municipal goalkeeper has the confidence of his teammates, whether it is denying goals in the run of play or making a dramatic stop in a shootout.

"He always tells us, the forwards, to handle that top of the field," Jairo Jiménez said. "It´s our job to make the goals and that he´ll take care of that back end of the goal. We know that we can trust him and we´re happy to have him in the back."

Penedo was at the top of his game in Panama´s 2-1 semifinal triumph over Mexico in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday, the second time the Central Americans defeated El Tri by the same score in the cup.

"The key is that we are a great group," noted Penedo, who has accumulated 82 caps. "We are disciplined and we have concentration. We are a national team that dreams big and we work hard for that."

Penedo has made four appearances in this Gold Cup, allowing three goals and posting one shutout.

He is confident Panama will make history and earn its first Gold Cup title.

"Because we want it, we dream it and we desire it," he said. "We know we can give our country a lot of happiness and pride.

"Discipline is always a factor, but also the wish and hope that we have as a national team. I think playing against big nations like the U.S. and Mexico is always that great hope that we have in order to beat them."

But Penedo realized that it won´t be easy against an American side that has won all of its five matches, outscoring its opposition, 19-3.

"It´s a team that has done a good job in World Cup qualifying and has had the results in the last couple of months," he said. "It´s going to be a difficult team that we are going to face."

Yair Clavijo’s father describes Cusco gesture as a “mockery”

Jose Clavijo, the father of the young soccer player who died last weekend, referred to the public display of a defibrillator during the pregame coverage of the rescheduled game in Cusco on Wednesday as a “mockery.”

“For me and my family, it would have been better if they hadn’t shown the defibrillator unit. It was a mockery!” he told reporters. “If they knew the pain that we’ve experienced they wouldn´t have shown it.”

Instead the father asks, “why wasn´t the defibrillator available for the reserves game last Sunday?”

“We just want to know the truth. We ask them not to be hypocrites or liars.”

In addition, the former Ciclista Lima player, and father of the recently deceased defenseman, criticized the sports commissioner in Urcos, Luis Rubin.

“I understand that a soccer commissioner has to have everything in order,” Clavijo said. “I want to know if Rubin knows if the defibrillator they deliberately showed on Wednesday was also available on Sunday.”

The father also questions if there was a specialist present that day. But mostly he expressed disbelief in the lack of medical attention.

“I can’t believe that an 18-year-old would be allowed to go out on the field without the necessary safety precautions.”

According to Clavijo, no one from the Sporting Cristal team, which his son was a member of, has contacted him.

“All I’ve heard from the team was to ‘stay calm,’” he said. “That’s all and since that, they haven’t been in touch with me.”

Finally, he stated that he had a dialog with the doctor of Sporting Cristal, Julio Ramirez.

“I have not yet seen any documentation regarding my son’s death,” Clavijo said.
“They only gave me some documents after the autopsy, but nothing more.”

Clavijo said that his son had already played 8 or 10 games at high altitude and never had any problems.

“Now they say it was a congenital problem,” Clavijo states. “All I want is for the doctor to explain what really happened to my son.”
