RIVER 1 (4): Marcelo Barovero; Jonatan Maidana, Germán Pezzella, Eder Alvarez Balanta; Carlos Sánchez, Leonardo Ponzio, Cristian Ledesma, Leonel Vangioni; Jonathan Fabbro, Manuel Lanzini; Carlos Luna.

Paraguay Division Profesional Wrap: Olimpia bounce back

Olimpia started the Paraguay Division Profesional season with a routine 3-1 victory over Deportivo Carapegua on Sunday.

Ever Hugo Almeida´s men were beaten 4-3 on penalties by Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro in last week´s Copa Libertadores final.

But Olimpia quickly put that result at the back of their minds, with a Ricardo Mazacotte double and Arnaldo Castorino´s effort inspiring the hosts to victory.

Gustavo Toranzo scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 57th minute.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Sportivo Luqueno and Deportivo Capiata also opened their campaigns with wins over Cerro Porteno PF and Sol de America respectively

Luqueno secured maximum points at the Estadio Felipe Gimenez thanks to first-half goals from Marcelo Ferreira and Sergio Escalante, while Fabio Escobar´s 73rd-minute strike handed Capiata a 2-1 victory at Sol de America.

On Saturday, Cristian Martinez cancelled out Jorge Recalde´s earlier effort as General Diaz and Libertad played out a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Friday´s fixtures saw Rubio Nu score twice in the final six minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw at home to Nacional Asuncion, while the match between Cerro Porteno and Guarani finished 1-1.

Ecuador Primera A Wrap: Universidad Catolica stay perfect

Universidad Catolica maintained their perfect start to the season with a 1-0 win over LDU Loja in Ecuador Primera A action on Friday.

Catolica had swept all before them prior to the weekend´s outing and that continued against Loja as Federico Laurito preserved the club´s 100 per cent record after five rounds.

Jorge Celico´s men now hold a three-point buffer at the summit following Emelec´s 2-0 defeat at Deportivo Quito on Saturday.

Emelec were looking to make it five wins from five this season but Deportivo Quito had other ideas, with Alex Bolanos and Federico Nieto getting on the scoresheet.

In other results from the weekend, El Nacional edged defending champions Barcelona 1-0 to move into fourth position, while fifth-placed Manta played out a 1-1 draw with Deportivo Cuenca.

Colombia - Liga Postobon...

Clasura2013 Round-Up

WEEK 1 ‚Äď Saturday 27th July 2013

An unusual lack of goals in day two of the first week of the Clausura season with just three goals shared across the three games on Saturday night/early Sunday morning. One of the league favourites Millionairos failed to clinch their first three points away to La Equidad. Millos have strengthened extensively after losing Fredy Montero to Sporting Lisbon and star defender Pedro Franco left for Turkish side Beşiktaş. Using the funds from the Franco transfer, Mario Alejandro Gonz√°lez, Alexis P√©rez, David Ramirez, Felipe Andres Cadavid and Dayro Moreno have all arrived to challenge for the Clasura title. Profilic striker Moreno should be the biggest hit with the Bogata giants, arriving on loan from Junior, he linked up well with Edison Toloza last year and scored 10 goals in 32 appearances in his time with the Barranquilla side. Despite Saturday‚Äôs setback, they will surely be challenging for honours come the end of the season.

BOYAC√Ā CHIC√ď 0-0 PATRIOTAS BOYAC√Ā

A tight affair in the Boyacá derby with both sides unable to find the net and shared the points. The deadlock was nearly broken on the stroke of half-time after the hosts were awarded a soft penalty when Andres Felipe Arboleda was penalised for a slight shove on Juan David Perez. Edwin Móvil stepped up to take the spot-kick and fired it low down the middle which was saved by the legs of Nicolás Vikonis.

DEPORTIVO PASTO 1-0 DEPORTES QUIND√ćO

Pasto gained a narrow 1-0 victory even though they controlled the game from the kick-off and only Quindío goalkeeper Julián Viáfara could stop the score from being greater. The only goal of the game came on 28 minutes through Mauricio Mina. The win was not the only good news for Pasto, as they welcomed the return of Víctor Manuel Zapata to the first team after seven months absent with injury.

LA EQUIDAD 1-1 MILLONARIOS

Young La Equidad striker Esteban Casta√Īeda hit a late equaliser to stop Millos gaining a precious three points in their opener.

Los Embajadores took the lead with a perfect 25-yard free-kick from Luis Hern√°n Mosquera just seven minutes inside the first half. Mosquera lofted the ball over the defensive wall and sent the shot flying into the top corner of Diego Novoa‚Äôs goal giving the ‚Äėkeeper no chance.

After tasting a heavy 4-0 defeat to Portuguese giants FC Porto in midweek, Millos looked a different side creating chances and testing the Equidad defenders, but they were unable to stretch their lead, and they paid for it a minute into injury time.

Substitute striker Casta√Īeda grabbed the headlines with the goal that robbed Millos of the spoils. Darwin Andrade swung a ball into the box, which debutant Jonathan √Ālvarez knocked into the 21-year-old‚Äôs path on the edge of the area to fire home.

Liga MX Wrap: Leon, Pachuca take early lead

Leon and Pachuca produced 2-1 victories to maintain their 100 per cent records in Liga MX.

With the season still in its infancy, Leon will be encouraged after coming from behind to defeat Atlas at the Estadio Jalisco on Sunday.

Flavio Santos gave the home side the early advantage as he struck in the fifth minute.

But they were unable to build on that and the sides were level by half-time courtesy of former Wigan forward Mauro Boselli´s effort nine minutes before the break.

Midfielder Carlos Pena completed the comeback shortly after the restart to condemn the home side to defeat.

Pachuca consigned Tigres UANL to an opening game-defeat at the Estadio Miguel Hidalgo.

Miguel Herrera opened the scoring for the home side but that goal was cancelled out by Jesus Duenas as the sides headed for half-time at 1-1.

It took a moment of sheer brilliance from midfielder Daniel Luduena to win the game in the 48th minute. He span his marker before hitting an audacious 70-yard lob over Enrique Palos and into the net.

Santos Laguna won their first game of the season with a 3-2 success against Cruz Azul on Saturday.

The home side raced into a 3-0 half-time lead at the Estadio Nuevo Corona as a brace from Oribe Peralta was preceded by an Oswaldo Alanis strike.

Peralta saw red on the hour mark and the visitors threatened a comeback as Christian Gimenez and Joao Rojas reduced the deficit.

Azul were unable to find an equaliser, however, as Laguna managed to survive a nervy ending to collect the three points.

Also on Saturday, Jefferson Montero´s hat-trick was not enough to prevent Morelia falling to a 4-3 home defeat to Toluca, with Joel Huiqui dismissed for the hosts.

http://www.youtube.com/w…hOGP_cNwRfM

Atlante prop up the table after their two games as they suffered a 4-2 loss at home to Veracruz on Sunday.

It could have been a different story as Angel Sepulveda fired the home side into a third-minute lead.

But Angel Reyna scored twice before the break to put the away side ahead.

Alberto Garcia once more levelled the scores a minute into the second half but saw red four minutes later, before Christian Marrugo restored Veracruz´s lead.

And when Reyna completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute the result was effectively put beyond doubt, as Veracruz moved to third in the table.

Also on Sunday, 10-man Monterrey drew 1-1 with Puebla, while Angel Zaldivar´s last-minute strike earned a 1-1 draw away to Chiapas.

Finally, Pumas UNAM were defeated 3-0 at home by Queretaro following Ariel Nahuelpan´s second-half dismissal.

Thiago Silva extends PSG contract until 2018

Thiago Silva has extended his contract with French club Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the 2018 season.

The French club have also increased the salary of the former Fluminense defender from 10 to 12 million Euros per year.

It is expected the new contract will appease Thiago Silva, as Barcelona were interested in signing the defender.

L´√Čquipe reports that Paris Saint-Germain now hope the new contract will keep him longer at the club, perhaps until he retires from the game.

Thiago Silva joined Paris Saint-Germain last year, after successful spells at Fluminense and AC Milan.

Besides Thiago Silva, Paris Saint-Germain´s squad also include Brazilian centrebacks Alex and Marquinhos. The latter was recently signed from Roma. Maxwell and Lucas Moura are the remaining Brazilian players in the sqyad.

Copa Sudamericana: the coach of Blooming "we lack strength"

On Saturday Blooming played a friendly match against a local team, which ended 0-0. It was a tune-up game for their Wednesday match against the team from Uruguay.

Andrada praised his team, but demanded greater force in attack.

"Our tactical order was positive, but we lack forcefulness," said the helmsman, quoted by the newspaper El Deber of Santa Cruz.

The coach, however, said his team is already set for the match against the Uruguayans, although it does not have its main attacker, Argentine Hernan Bouvier, who was signed last week by Argentinos Juniors.

Midfielder Alejandro Gomez, agreed with his coach, saying that "we have improved from the middle of the field and back and we are working on getting better from the middle to the front."

Local media awaits the arrival of River Plate on Monday. They will be staying at a hotel downtown.

The game is scheduled for 7:30 pm local time (23h30 GMT) on Wednesday at the Tahuichi Aguilera de Santa Cruz stadium.

The return match, which will decide who gets to move on to the next stage, is set for August 6 in Montevideo.
