Three Reasons Why Club America Signed Oribe Peralta

Mexico City giants Club America are used to making high profile signings, and this Tuesday they did it again. Both Club America and Club Santos Laguna directors offered a joint press conference in which they announced that Mexican National Team forward Oribe Peralta would join America for the Apertura 2014 season of LIGA Bancomer MX.

Peralta, who is currently in Mexico City with the National Team also spoke via tele conference in which he said his goodbyes to his hometown team.

Both sets of club directors refused to give any details on the amount of money that it took for this transaction to happen, but it is rumored that America paid Santos between $5 - $10 million USD and that Peralta was signing a three to four year contract.

Here are the three reason why the 11 time Mexican league champions were willing to spend that kind of money:

1- ANOTHER TOP QUALITY STRIKER WAS NEEDED

Club America has yet to fill the huge void left by the late Christian "Chucho" Benitez. Youth product Raul Jimenez had formed a strong partnership with Benitez and when the Ecuadorian left for the Middle East, Jimenez stepped up and became the target man for America.

Luis Gabriel Rey and Andres Rios were also brought in to help Jimenez as well as youth product Antonio "Tony" Lopez.

A dark reality is that Lopez has not been able to show high enough quality to play in Club America´s first team; or first division, and Argentine Rios has had a difficult time adjusting to Mexican football and has not been effective at all. Only Luis Gabriel Rey and Raul Jimenez are performing to the required level at the moment.

2- RAUL JIMENEZ COULD BE ON HIS WAY TO EUROPE

Club America has four strikers and only two of them are putting in decent performances, and now the Mexico City side risk losing one of the two forwards on form.

Jimenez will be part of the Mexican National Team competing in Brazil during the FIFA World Cup, and with his young age he is a prime target for top European clubs. Rumors of a European transfer fly around Jimenez every transfer season since he won the Olympic Gold Medal with Mexico in 2012. A strong showing in Brazil could finally seal the deal for this young striker.

3- TO ´ONE UP´ BITTER RIVALS CHIVAS OF GUADALAJARA

Life long rivals of Club America, Chivas of Guadalajara will be in a particular situation that they have never been in before; fighting out the relegation race. In order to avoid an embarrassing drop into the second division of Mexican soccer, Chivas owner Jorge Vergara was looking into a list of 25 possible players to sign from which he said he would sign at least six new players.

No doubt that one of the first names on his list was the former Santos Laguna striker Oribe Peralta. The number one issue that Chivas had throughout the Clausura 2014 season was the inability to score goals despite the vast number of forwards; Omar Bravo, Aldo de Nigris, Rafael Marquez Lugo, Carlos Fierro.

Since Chivas have their infamous "Mexicans Only" policy, the options for a new striker are slim. Club America could have gone out into the transfer market and signed a high quality international striker, but instead they went and took away what looked like the only real Chivas option.

Alexis Sanchez: From Washing Cars to Leading Chile Into the World Cup

Barcelona´s Alexis Sanchez has come a long way from washing cars in his native Chile just to make enough money to feed himself.

At 25, Sanchez is preparing for his second World Cup in the prime of his career. It could have been so different. Money was tight in his home city of Tocopilla where he cleaned cars to earn money and the local mayor gave him his first pair of football boots.

"If it weren´t for football I would still be washing cars and pushing carts" he said in an interview with newspaper El Pais.

Italian side Udinese signed Sanchez as a teenager and his raw talent was on show in South Africa in 2010. An exciting Chile dazzled before being dumped out by defeats to eventual champions Spain and then Brazil in the last 16.

"At the World Cup I was liberated and matured about 80 percent," Sanchez told El Pais.

Following the World Cup, he went onto become Serie A´s Player of the Year in the 2010/11 season - no small feat as Udinese are not one of Italian football´s traditional powers. His performances attracted the attention of Barcelona who spent 26 million euros ($36 million) to make him the first Chilean to play for the Catalan giants.

The past three years have proved a struggle, though, as Sanchez has failed to live up to the hype that surrounded his transfer. He was widely mocked in the Spanish media after describing himself as being a "great player" in an interview last year.

This season has at least produced his best goal return, but even then he has often been a peripheral figure when it comes to the biggest games. However, with Chile he appears like a different player. The extra responsibility of not being surrounded by a host of superstars brings the best out of his abilities.

"To start with, I feel more liberated with Chile because it is a different way of playing," he explains. "The work is less demanding at Barca. In the national team I work three times as hard because the game goes back and forward all the time. Barca is unique, no other team in the world plays like that. There will not be another team in history that has so much talent and plays as well."

A meeting with many of his Barca teammates lies in wait for Sanchez as the World Cup draw set out a path for Jorge Sampaoli´s side as demanding as the one they faced four years ago. As well as being paired with both the reigning champions Spain and 2010 finalists the Netherlands in Group B, Chile could also face Brazil once more in the last 16.

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque insisted before and after the draw that Chile was the one side he did not want to face, following their impressive display in a 2-2 draw between the sides in a friendly last September. Yet, despite Chile´s rise in the FIFA rankings and profile around the world thanks to players like Sanchez and Juventus´ Arturo Vidal, the Barcelona man admitted that he would happily settle for second place in the group behind Spain.

"It is nice that Spain show respect towards us because they are the champions, but we have been put in the hardest group of all and I would sign for finishing second with Spain going through too."

Viola: "Racing tiene que salir a ganar"

BUENOS AIRES -- El juvenil delantero de Racing Club Valentin Viola hizo mención al partido del próximo domingo ante Godoy Cruz de Mendoza, equipo que aún no aseguró su permanencia en Primera, y al respecto afirmó que su equipo "tiene que salir a ganar" y que no le "interesa" si su rival "se juega el descenso".

"Racing tiene que salir a ganar por más que estemos salvados y no juguemos por la tabla de arriba ni la de abajo es Racing. Necesitamos tres puntos para lo que viene", declaró el atacante en conferencia de prensa tras la práctica matutina.

Al respecto de la potencial pérdida de la categoría por parte del Tomba, Viola fue tajante: "No nos interesa para nada si ellos se juegan el descenso. Vamos a salir a ganar".

Por otra parte, el futbolista surgido de la cantera académica, destacó el planteo táctico impuesto por Fabio Radaelli en el empate sin goles ante Rosario Central en la última jornada, el cual fue más ofensivo y claramente opuesto al esquema conservador que solía usar el entrenador saliente, Reinaldo Mostaza Merlo.

"(Fabio) Radaelli llegó y lo que él pidió fue que tratásemos de jugar y de intentar y además es cierto que teníamos menos presión con lo de la tabla de abajo y eso nos hizo liberar", analizó.

En la misma línea, añadió: "Puso jugadores de muy bien pie y con ganas de mostrarse que lo han hecho bien como Guillero Hauche o Roger (Martinez), a quienes no les pasó el entorno".

Por último, el jugador oriundo de la localidad bonaerense de Moreno, habló sobre el rumor que sostiene a Luis Zubeldía como uno de los pobrables técnicos para reemplazar a Mostaza Merlo.

"Hubo muchos técnicos que han tenido dos etapas en un mismo club. Me sorprende que sea con tan poco diferencia de tiempo porque echar a un técnico para volver a llamarlo un año después es un poco raro", sostuvo.

"Luis (Zubeldía) está a la altura de lo que es Racing y su juego y sus ganas de ir para adelante van con lo que es este club", cerró en su análisis.

LA PRÁCTICA
En cuanto a la práctica matutina del martes, desarrollada en la cancha auxiliar del estadio `Juan Domingo Perón`, el DT interino, Fabio Radaelli, sorprendió con una sesión de fútbol táctico en el segundo entrenamiento de la semana, situación que no ocurría en Racing hace tiempo.

En cuanto al trabajo, en el que el grupo estuvo dividido en dos equipos mezclados, el DT hizo hincapié en la salida desde el arco, la presión de volantes y delanteros en la zona ofensiva, la generación de juego y utilizar diferentes alternativas en ataque.

Para ello, Radaelli subdividió los límites de la zona media del campo, donde, en un primer momento, los jugadores debían tocar el balón en tres ocasiones para avanzar rumbo al arco contrario.

Luego, se mantuvo el mismo ejercicio, salvo que se quitó la regla de los tres toques y después, para finalizar la práctica, se jugó un fútbol táctico formal.

Por el lado de los lesionados, el volante Bruno Zuculini, quien se recupera de un esguince traumático en su tobillo derecho, realizó tareas de velocidad y coordinación con pelota, además de una sesión de kinesiología y gimnasio.

En tanto, el mediocampista Diego villar (traumatismo en su rodilla derecha) hizo trabajos en kinesiología y gimnasio, mientras que el delantero Luciano vietto (pequeño desgarro biceps femoral derecho) realizó kinesiología.

El plantel académico volverá a los entrenamientos el miércoles, desde las 9, en el estadio `Juan Domingo Perón, a puertas cerradas y sin atención a la prensa.

Ang. Albiceleste er det en ganske ventet trup.

Man må forstå, at landsholdsfodbolden adskiller sig fra klubfodbolden ved i mindre grad at eksperimentere og nedbryde hierarkier, da man skal vÊre sikker på at kunne prÊstere den ene gang om året. Deraf de "underlige" landstrÊnere Verden over.

Her har Demichelis en helt sÊrlig rolle, som også Pellegrini har luret fra Málaga-tiden. Hvad han ikke har i fodboldtalent og hurtighed, opvejes med lederskab i en så usammenspillet defensiv. Jeg tror faktisk, han er tiltÊnkt en startplads, fordi ellers hiver man ham ikke med - alt for stor indflydelse.
- Samme argument kan vel bruges mod Tevez.

Mange i artikeltråden snakker defensiven ned som det svageste punkt, hvilket jeg ikke er enig i. Man lukkede under 1 mål ind pr kamp i CONMEBOL-kvalen. Zabaleta og Garay er stadig Þverste hylde med et par kompetente jokere i Otamendi og Fede, mens den omskolede venstreback Rojo er defensivt orienteret. Campagnaro - og generelt Inter-veteranerne - forstår jeg dog ikke, hvorimod López trods alt har lÞftet spillet markant med Getafes genoprejsning siden de to skandalÞse kampe med udvisning mod Celta og 2-0-nederlag mod Betis ultimo februar.

Midtbanen er derimod uvant tynd. Mascherano skal nok bidrage til firebackkÊden, men Gago nÃ¥r ikke at blive 100% fit og Éverito er et stort ? efter et i bagklogskaben ligegyldigt lejemÃ¥l til Newell´s. Det rkeative skal nok komme fra di María, La Ligas assistkonge, som i denne sÊson har vÊret rykket en del ned pÃ¥ en mere central midtbaneplads - at spille ham udelukker altsÃ¥ ikke et tremandsangreb med AgÃŒero, Messi og Lavezzi/Higuaín. Har altid vÊret meget imponeret af di María, som jeg herinde vist nok kaldte Verdens bedste omstillingsspiller under en Argentina-landskamp sidste Ã¥r. MÃ¥ske overilet, men pointen synes at stÃ¥ efter denne imponerende sÊson. Det skal dog komme fra ham eller en af fÞromtalte Valencia-ekser, fordi andre folk i deres bedste alder sÃ¥som Pérez, Biglia og Sosa er jo arbejdsheste, mens den af mig ellers sÃ¥ lovpriste Augusto senest har mistet sin playmaker-plads til Krohn-Dehli i Celta. Álvarez og Rinaudo kan de stikke skrÃ¥t op.

I angrebet, som jeg ved nÊrmere eftertanke måske alligevel vil kalde slutrundens bedste, er jeg egentligt kun utilfreds med old-boys Palacio. Til gengÊld meget utilfreds. De Santo bidrager med noget fysik, som kan blive vÊrdifuld sidst i kampene til at skabe plads for de lutter hurtige angribere omkring ham - alternativet var vel store Pratto som måske endda var at foretrÊkke.

Spillere, jeg dog gerne havde set med:
- Willy Caballero, som så godt nok ikke var inde i Sabellas overvejelser.
- Ansaldi, som imponerede mig under EL-kampagnen sidste sÊson og kunne have vÊret holdets eneste naturlige alternativ til venstreback. Rojo er gammel midtstopper.
- Fazio - dog ikke Musacchio der som FAS nÊvner har vÊret ringe efter nytår.
- Pastore, som har spillet et flot forår i det franske. Alternativt kometen Lanzini, som kunne vÊre den kreative joker og tilegnes erfaring fremadrettet.
- Zárate, som er hjemlig topscorer og en Palacio-type - blot bedre og mere perspektivrig.

Sabellas tropper skal nu nok klare sig videre uden min hjÊlp - eneste lille frygt er åbningskampen mod debutanterne Bosnien der ligesom Argentina vil komme med vildskab. Forudser en fysisk kamp, ikke just til argentinernes fordel.
En gyser er at holde med flagermus og ulve.

Bianchi probó una nueva dupla central

BUENOS AIRES -- De cara al último partido de Boca en el Torneo Final, Carlos Bianchi deberá rearmar la defensa y durante un ensayo de fútbol probó a Leandro Marín y Claudio Pérez como integrantes de la zaga central.

Con Juan Forlín y Daniel Díaz suspendidos, el Virrey apostó por el exdefensor de Belgrano y por Marín, habitual lateral, que no juega desde hace dos meses por una luxación en el hombro derecho.

Los once que paró Bianchi fueron: Emanuel Trípodi; Hernán Grana, Leandro Marín, Claudio Pérez, Emanuel Insúa; Pablo Ledesma, Federico Bravo, Juan Sánchez Miño; Luciano Acosta; Diego Perotti y Mauro Dalla Costa.

Hubo varios titulares ausentes en dicho ensayo debido a que Juan Román Riquelme, Juan Manuel Martínez y Emmanuel Gigliotti trabajaron diferenciado, recuperándose de leves molestias.

Boca visitará La Plata en la última fecha del Torneo Final para cerrar el campeonato ante Gimnasia. El "Xeneize" aún tiene un objetivo de cara al último partido oficial de la temporada: finalizar en el primer lugar de la tabla general y así obtener el boleto directo a la Copa Libertadores 2015.

River: ensayo con cuatro modificaciones

BUENOS AIRES -- En lo que puede ser una semana histórica, Ramón Díaz no juega al misterio y, a cuatro días del partido en el cual River recibirá a Gimnasia en busca de la consagración, programó un ensayo de fútbol en el cual dejó en claro cuál será el equipo titular.

La alineación, con respecto a los que vencieron a Argentinos, contó con los regresos de los suspendidos Jonatan Maidana y Ariel Rojas y de los lesionados Éder Álvarez Balanta y Teófilo Gutiérrez. Los que dejaron el equipo fueron Germán Pezzella, Ramiro Funes Mori, Matías Kranevitter y Daniel Villalva.

De esta manera, el equipo titular se paró con: Marcelo Barovero; Gabriel Mercado, Jonatan Maidana, Éder Álvarez Balanta, Leonel Vangioni; Carlos Carbonero, Cristian Ledesma, Ariel Rojas; Manuel Lanzini; Teófilo Gutiérrez, Fernando Cavenaghi.

Mientras tanto, para los suplentes jugaron: Leandro Chichizola; Augusto Solari, Germán Pezzella, Ramiro Funes Mori, Bruno Uribarri; Leonardo Ponzio, Matías Kranevitter, Osmar Ferreyra; Jonathan Fabbro; Juan Carlos Menseguez, Daniel Villalva.

River recibirá a Quilmes en el último partido del Torneo Final y, en caso de que Estudiantes no supere a Tigre, podría consagrarse con el empate. Cabe recordar que en caso de ser campeón, jugará el domingo 25 de mayo la Superfinal ante San Lorenzo, campeón del Torneo Inicial 2013.

Racing: tareas hacienda foco en el ataque

BUENOS AIRES -- La temporada de Racing no fue la mejor y, por eso, pensando en el partido con Godoy Cruz, el cuerpo técnico interino encabezado por Fabio Radaelli volvió a programar ejercicios haciendo hincapié en tareas de definición.

En el entrenamiento desarrollado en la cancha auxiliar, Radaelli paró en cancha dos equipos de once jugadores cada uno con la idea de practicar para mejorar el funcionamiento ofensivo y así generar más situaciones de gol.

Por un lado, el equipo que se vistió con pechera blanca tuvo a: Nelson Ibáñez; José Luis Gómez, Yonathan Cabral, Matías Cahais, Rodrigo Espíndola; Michael Pierce; Gabriel Hauche, Mauro Bazán, Leonardo Rolheiser, Guillermo Hauche; Juan Ignacio Dinenno.

Mientras tanto, los de pechera azul tuvieron a: Juan Ignacio Musso; Ismael Quílez, Esteban Saveljich, Gabriel Migliónico, Alejandro Garcia; Francisco Cerro; Ezequiel Melillo, Gastón Campi, Luciano Aued, Roger Martínez; Valentín Viola.

En cuanto a los lesionados, Luciano Vietto y Luis Ibáñez trabajaron diferenciado trotando alrededor del terreno y Diego Villar hizo ejercicios en el gimnasio y Bruno Zuculini continuó con su puesta a punto realizando tareas con pelota junto a Juan Álvarez. Todos los mencionados serán evaluados para determinar si podrán estar a disposición o no ante el conjunto mendocino.

Racing, con sólo 33 puntos en la temporada, buscará cerrar el año futbolístico ganando en Mendoza. La "Academia" enfrentará a Godoy Cruz desde las 15:00 hs. del domingo, con el arbitraje de Diego Ceballos

Raul Jimenez Linked to European Clubs

The 23 year-old, Mexican International, has been continuously linked with several European clubs. However, there seems to be very concrete interest from Manchester City and FC Porto.

According to "O Jogo," the Dragons are looking to replace Jackson Martinez who is very likely to depart this summer, along with his impressive goal tally. Porto would be a very welcoming destination for the Mexican starlet, as his former Club America teammate, Diego Reyes, along with Mexican international teammate, Hector Herrera already ply their trade at the Estadio do Dragão.

According to Metro, Mark Hughes is also very keen on the statuesque striker and is looking to reinforce Stoke City´s front line. Scouts have been observing both Jimenez and Cruz Azul´s Marco Fabian.

Standing at 6.2 ft, Jimenez is lauding comparisons to Zlatan Ibrahimovic by the Portuguese press. He has impressive strength and has several attributes in his arsenal that make him very dangerous inside the box.

With Club America recently acquiring the services of Oribe Peralta, they will be very willing to entertain offers for their prized, international striker. At 23 years old, Raul has over 22 International caps and was a big part of Mexico´s World Cup qualifying squad. On that front, acquiring a work permit in the UK should pose very little trouble.
